                                                                                      Biography

Charlie began his postal career in 1966 at the Port Reading post office located in Woodbridge Township.  He soon became President of Branch 5907, and participated in the strike of 1970.  In 1979 Branch 5907 was the first branch to merge with Branch 2951, Union.   During his service with Branch 2951, Charlie was elected Secretary, and eventually Vice-President.  Over several years President Jules Cohen and Charlie  recruited 32 offices to merge.  The name of the Branch was then changed to Central Jersey Merged.  In 1985 the Branch 2951 merged with Branch 38.

In 1981 Charlie was elected to the Executive Board of the New Jersey State Association of Letter Carriers.  He continues to hold the position of Director of Retirees.

In 1985 he was appointed, by NALC President Vince Sombrotto, as the first Employee Involvement Facilitator of the Newark MSC.  In that capacity, he planned and trained many Post Offices in the EI process.

In 2010 Charlie was elected to the position of Director of Retirees and Health Benefits for Branch 38.

Charlie’s involvement extends outside the office.  Charlie initiated, and has been Chairman, of the Branch 38 Annual Golf Outing  to benefit MDA.  Charlie also co-ordinates the annual Food Drive for Branch 38

Charlie says the most enjoyable part of his job has been listening to, helping and guiding employees and retirees with various health and retirement issues.

Charlie and his wife Paula recently celebrated their 25th wedding  anniversary.  Between them they have 7 children and 8 grandchildren.  Charlie and Paula also host the Hospitality Room for Branch 38 as representatives of Brookfield Uniforms.
