Joe started his carrier in the Mount Arlington Post Office as a letter carrier in 1985. He became
the shop steward in 1991. Early in Joe’s union career, he served as a route examination observer, and was also an OJI
Instructor for many years. He took
a special interest in the legislative issues affecting the USPS, and became involved in the NJSALC legislative department.
He was appointed to serve as the New Jerseys 5th Congressional District Liaison in 1998. He was appointed to the position of Executive Board Member of the NJSALC in 2010
by State President Tony Massa, and elected to that position in 2011. In 2017, Joe was elected
by acclimation to the position of Secretary of the NJSALC.
Joe is a graduate of the 10th NALC Leadership Academy, and
also serves as the New Hire Coordinator for the Northern NJ District. He has been responsible for signing
up newly hired letter carriers to join the NALC since 2005. He graduated Arbitration Advocacy Training
in 2007. Joe advocates arbitration cases for all of Region 15, including Branch 38.
In 2008, Joe was asked by Branch 38 President, Pete
Maglio to join his staff and begin to work for the branch as a Part-Time Area Representative. Of all the different jobs Joe
has held in the union, he says that the job of a Branch 38 Area Rep is by far the most rewarding. “It is a job of long
hours and hard work, but when you can help a brother or sister carrier out of a problem they are having, it is incredibly
rewarding. I have found working for the union, and particularly working for Branch 38, a great honor.” Joe was
elected by acclimation to the position of Treasurer in 2016
Joe resides in Warren County NJ. He married his wife Lynne in 1992 and
they have two sons, Ryan and Jonathan.
